The Lawrence Historical Society is the designated caretaker of two historic houses in the Township of Lawrence, the 1761 Brearley House and the Port Mercer Canal House.  As caretaker, the society helps maintain the houses, provides tours, and hosts events at both locations.

The society offers monthly tours of 1761 Brearley House and occassional tours of Port Mercer Canal House.  In addition to the regularly scheduled tours, special tours are offered during October for Lawrence History Month and to private groups upon request.  The houses are also open during events, such as our popular Hogmanay Bonfire, which is held every New Year's Eve at 1761 Brearley House.

With the help of grants from the Lawrence Township Community Foundation and the Mercer County Culture and Heritage Commission, the society has recently added new exterior signage at both houses as well as a poster gallery showcasing a variety of local history topics at 1761 Brearley House.
