Founders Day Celebration
The Lawrence Historical Society, jointly with the Lawrence Township Community Foundation, will celebrate the 329th birthday of Lawrence Township (formerly known as Maidenhead Township) at the Founders Day Celebration on Saturday, February 21 at Brearley House from 7-10 pm.
Tickets can be purchased at bit.ly/LHSLTCF.
The celebration includes the presentation of the inaugural Robert B. Immordino Award to Pam Mount, owner of the landmark Terhune Orchards. This prestigious new honor recognizes an individual or organization that has made exceptional contributions to the civic life and historical narrative of Lawrence Township.
The board established the award to honor those whose accomplishments are historic in nature and provide lasting benefits to the community. In selecting Pam Mount, the Society recognizes a leader who has shaped the township's landscape as both a preservationist and a visionary entrepreneur.
Pam and her late husband, Gary, purchased Terhune Orchards in 1975. At the time, they bought the farmland with a singular goal: to actually farm. Under their stewardship, the site evolved from a modest tree farm into a highly diversified 250-acre regional destination. Today, the farm produces more than 50 varieties of crops and welcomes an estimated 700,000 visitors annually for "Pick Your Own" fruits, wine tastings, live music, and educational programs.
Beyond its success as a business, Terhune Orchards has served as an outdoor classroom for thousands of students and farmers, acting as a premier model for sustainable farming in New Jersey.
Pam also served 12 years on the Lawrence Township Council, including three years as Mayor. Her tenure was marked by a deep commitment to the township's heritage, supporting local historic preservation and staple community events such as the Township Birthday Celebration, the Memorial Day Parade, and the annual Colonel Hand March.
Pam’s passion for service led her to found or co-found several pillar organizations, including:
The Lawrence Township Community Foundation (LTCF)
The Lawrence Township Education Foundation (LTEF)
Sustainable Lawrence (which helped pave the way for Sustainable Jersey)
Farmers Against Hunger
She was also instrumental in the creation of the Lawrence Nature Center and established an English Language Learners (ELL) program at Slackwood Elementary School.
Her contributions have earned her statewide recognition, including being named one of NJBIZ’s "Best 50 Women in Business" (2012) and receiving the “Growing Great Women in the Garden State Award” from the NJ Society of Women Environmental Professionals. In 2006, she was appointed to the Clean Air Council by Governor Jon Corzine, and in 2018, the Mount family was honored as the “Vegetable Grower of the Year” by the New Jersey State Board of Agriculture.
